Why blog?

19 May 2023

Schopenhauer said the first 40 years of your life was text; the rest commentary. Forty seems a rather early cut-off point – life expectancy was shorter in the early 19th century – but he had a point. A shift does occur with age, and I am definitely now at the commentary stage of my life. Hence this website – cultivating the unruly outpourings of more than 40 years of journalism – and this blog, where I can ramble without the outside interventions that become so unappealing in your cranky, dyspeptic dotage. Who knows what I will write, or indeed why. It is a dangerous compulsion? Humour me please.
